'How To' Site for Website setup using Wordpress

Register a Domain

I see you have made it this far, now it is time to take the 1st step in setting up your website. This step is Registering your Domain, for those who may not know a domain is the human readable word(s) you put in the address bar of your web browser. Without the domain name the world would be quite dull as we would have to navigate the internet via a series of number based addresses.

To optimize your site for people and search engines, you would typically want to choose a domain name that is your personal or business name and/or describes your sites content. A domain should typically cost 7-15 dollars for a 1 year registration. The cost will depend on what registrar you use as well as what the extension(.com, .info, .us, etc) to the domain is.

Once you have decided on the domain you will need to check if it is available. You can do that here at Namecheap. Currently Namecheap is my preferred registrar however, I do recommend Godaddy as another choice.
